The Apple II 16-pin to 9-pin joystick adaptor lets you plug a 9-pin Apple IIe style joystick into your Apple II or II+.

 

**This is not required for use with a GABE.  The GABE can use a 16-pin to 16-pin connector directly to an Apple II or II+.  Unless you wish to use a 9-pin cable, in which case this will work perfectly well with the GABE, providing support for all 4 PDLs.
